Trakošćan castle

In 30 minutes drive from Villa is the most famous and best preserved Croatian castle – Trakošćan.

Castle was first built in the late 13th or early 14th century as a small defensive fortress. Complex of Trakošćan we have today, a romanticist synergy of architecture and nature, is a result of 19th century. Castle was reconstructed in neo – gothic style and surrounding landscape including a lake emerged after the model of English park. For the last 60 years Trakoscan houses valuable collection of paintings, furniture and weapons from the Renaissance until Historicism.

Veliki Tabor castle

Veliki Tabor castle, situated on the hilltop in the manner of the medieval burgs, will excite you with interesting legends, impressive architecture and the most amazing views. In Trakošćan Castle you will experience a true fairy tale atmosfere walking the castle halls and around the picturesque lake.

The fort of Veliki Tabor is one of the most important cultural and historical monuments of secular architecture in continental Croatia, with a unique monumental and authentic fortification structure. Situated at the top of Mount Hum Kosnicki, at 333 meters above sea level, it has dominated the Zagorje area for over half a millennium, during which time the architecture has blended in with nature. The impressive view from Veliki Tabor stretches over the entire Hrvatsko Zagorje area and part of Slovenia. This zero-category monument is one of the most recognizable identities of not only Hrvatsko Zagorje but of Croatia as a whole

Ethno village Kumrovec & Tito's birthplace

You will explore traditional housing and farm facilities from the late 19th century in the biggest open-space ethnographic museum in Croatia. Finally you will get a glance into history of Yugoslavia in the birth house of Josip Broz Tito.

From Villa you will drive through picturesque landscapes and villages to reach Kumrovec – a birthplace of marshal Josip Broz Tito (1892–1980), the president of Yugoslavia. The birth house of Tito features the Memorial Museum of Marshal Tito and next to the house is the bronze standing statue of Marshal Tito. The old part of village Kumrovec comprises the Ethnological Museum with 18 village houses, displaying permanent exhibitions of artifacts related to the life and work of Zagorje peasants in the 19th/20th century. After a sightseeing tour we can recommend you a restaurant serving traditional local food for a late lunch before your return back to Villa.
